April 10, 2007 - April 3rd Board of Examiners Meeting and Scholarship update - Jason FegelOn April 3rd the CWWCA Liaison committee (Jason Fegel and Jeff Appel) and Reiner Haubold attended the Board of Examiners of Water Well Contractors meeting. Look for the official minutes of this meeting in the next issue of the DrillStem.
Hal Simpson gave his last report to this Board as he will retiring from the State Engineer's position. Tim Decker, on behalf of the Board of Examiners, presented a plaque in appreciation of Hal Simpson's service to this Board over the years.
After the CWWCA's report to this Board was the reports from the staff of the State Engineers office. There are 362 currently licensed contractors in Colorado, and 14 licensened individuals did not renew for 2007 for various reasons. The inspectors are getting to 2800 inspections per year.
There was discussion on whether to allow additional continuing education credit for presenting an accredited class above the credits allowed for attending the class. The CWWCA mid-year meeting was approved for 5 hours of continuing education hours.
The board clarified their original approval of the 2007 CWWCA Annual continuing education hours. They indicated that while 12 credit hours were available at the annual, they would not allow an indivual to claim more then 8 hours from this event, even if the individual wanted to apply some credits to the 2006 license and some to the 2007 license. From October through November State and CWWCA sponsored continuing education classes will be held across the state (These classes are a direct result of the TAC committee's recommendations).
Recently a court action was resolved in the State's favor against an unlicensed contractor. I will provide more details when I have them, but any contractor who is concerned that the State is targeting licensed contractors and not unlicensed ones, will likely be happly about this case.
Board Policy 2007-1 was approved. This is the policy discussed at the last Board of Examiners meeting that changed the dates that continuing education hours can be earned for a given year to Jan 1 through Dec 31. This benifits the CWWCA as there will be no conflicts with continuing education credits at the 2008 Annual which is going to be held much earlier in January then in previous years.
The next Board of Examiners meeting is June 5th 2007.
